SWABI: The International Olympic Committee (IOC) Medical Commission has awarded its prestigious Diploma in Sports Medicine to Dr. Ashfaq Ahmad, a prominent orthopedic surgeon and ex Senior Registrar at Ghurki Trust Teaching Hospital, making him part of a select global cohort of distinguished medical professionals, Dr. Ahmad currently runs his own hospital in Sawabi.
This two-year, part-time diploma program, delivered via distance learning, provides rigorous training in sports medicine, covering scientific foundations, best practices, research methodologies, and effective scientific communication.
Dr. Ahmad, who has proficiency in sports and spine surgery, holds the Fellowship of the College of Physicians and Surgeons (FCPS) in orthopedics and has completed spine surgery fellowships through the Pakistan Orthopedic Association and AO Spine in Turkey. He has also obtained the Eurospine BASIC Diploma in Turkey.
With over three years of specialised experience, Dr. Ahmad has conducted more than 3,000 procedures, including knee, ankle, and elbow arthroscopies. His expertise is further complemented by advanced training in wrist arthroscopy in Sharjah and elbow arthroscopy in Seoul, South Korea.
He received his Diploma in Sports Medicine from the IOC at the Olympic Museum in Switzerland, as the only Pakistani among 102 global graduates. He is the third Pakistani and the first from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to have this honour.
