Int’l symposium on Dec 8 - SIUT to celebrate success of its philosophy

Karachi: Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) has planned a five-day international symposium to celebrate success of its unique philosophy of medical care called “Free with Dignity".

The symposium which is scheduled to begin on Dec 8 at Karachi will be attended by over hundred delegates, including some globally renowned personalities of medical profession.
SIUT is practising a home-grown  philosophy of tertiary medical care in the country on the basis of providing access to the medical care in specialized fields, free of cost, to all the people, irrespctive of their cast, creed, coluor or religion.

The salient features of the symposium include scientific sessions, professional workshops and public debate in the specialized fields of medical sciences, including urology, nephrology, transplantation, oncology, hematology, gastroenterology, radiology, pathology and ethics. Developments taking place in the world of medical sciences and as how to translate those advancements for the benefit Pakistani population will also be deliberated upon in different sessions.

A press release of the SIUT said that the international symposium will also serve as an event of thanksgiving to express gratitude to all those who have witnessed the journey of the Institute during past four decades and extended their support in transforming the Institution into a role model medical care centre from a modest ward of the Civil Hospital of Karachi of the 70s to a 800-bed hospital, treating over a million patient annualy.

Highlighting the performance of the SIUT, the press release said that with the rate of 12 kidney transplant per week, the Institute happens to be one of the largest living donor transplant centre in the world and with a record of more than 750 dialysis sessions every day makes it as one of the largest dialysis centre in the world.

SIUT also maintains that the successful practice of its philosophy in health sector can be emulated in all those countries where health sector is suffering due to resource constraints.
