Islamabad: A Memorandum of Understanding was mutually signed between the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council and the Higher Education Comission of Pakistan earlier last week in order to promote better coordination of the two organizations.
President PMDC Dr Masood Hameed Khan and Chairman HEC Dr Mukhtar signed the document, the purpose of which is to strengthen and remodel the current programme accredation process in medicine and dentistry, currently being offered by higher education institutions across the country.
Another prominent purpose of the MoU is to create a set criteria for medical and dental programme recognition at both, postgraduate as well as undergraduate levels, for the appointment of relevant, competant faculty and for setting programme curriculum for students.
With this MoU, both organizations intend to establish a Medical and Dental Education Accreditation Board/Committee (MDEAC) for postgraduate and undergraduate programme accreditation in Pakistan.
HEC has previously signed similar MoUs with other prominent national organizations including Pakistan Council of Architects and Town Planners (PCATP), Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council (PVMC) and the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) among others.
