KARACHI - Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) has decided to convene first-ever three-day Pak-China Med Con (medical congress) in the city from Jan 8 to 10, 2016, Prof Syed Tipu Sultan, former PMA president and chairman organizing committee set up for event, told a news conference at PMA House.
The conference which will be organized in collaboration with Chinese Medical Association is aimed at commemorating the historic event of Pak-China Economic Corridor as “an initiative for a joint Pak-China Medical Corridor,” he added.
Divulging into details of the moot, Prof Tipu Sultan said that health experts from China and Saarc (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) countries will be invited to deliver state-of-the-art lectures on different medical and scientific topics of common interest as well as to share experiences and knowledge with each other.
All scientific sessions of the conference will be held at a local hotel, cultural and social events at Arts Council of Pakistan whereas business sessions will be held at PMA House, he said, adding that prime minister will be invited as chief guest at the inaugural session of the congress.
Highlighting salient features of the congress, he said these include discussions and community awareness programmes on different issues like population control, maternal & child health, reproductive health, traditional acupuncture, blindness, safe drinking water, addiction and sexually transmitted diseases, environment and human rights issues.
Scientific committee’s chairman Prof Idrees Adhi said all scientific sessions, seminars and workshops would be recognized as part of Continuous Medical Education (CME), besides the CME credit hours would be awarded to all the registered participants.
Scientific Committee’s secretary Dr Hamid Manzoor said medical experts from all over Pakistan will have threadbare discussions on various important medical issues such as organ transplant (kidney, liver etc.), blindness, pain management and growing burden of diseases in the country. trauma, impotency and brain tumors.
The news conference was also addressed by organizing committee’s secretary Dr Mirza Ali Azhar and PMA Centre’s treasurer Dr SM Qaisar Sajjad.
