KARACHI: The Young Doctors Association (YDA) has raised serious concerns over the alleged biased recruitment practices at Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU), which have resulted in experienced doctors being denied faculty positions in favor of less qualified candidates. The association strongly condemned the unfair hiring process, stating that it undermines the principles of meritocracy and threatens the integrity of one of Sindh’s most prestigious medical institutions.

Following a critical meeting with senior faculty members at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), YDA expressed outrage over the selection process, particularly in the surgery and medicine departments, where several highly experienced doctors were overlooked. Many of these doctors have served JPMC for over 38 years and are widely regarded as "teachers of teachers," yet they were not considered for professor-level positions. Instead, the recruitment committee appointed candidates with significantly fewer credentials, some of whom are up to 20 years junior in experience. The association emphasized that these appointees lack the expertise required for such senior roles, raising serious concerns about the transparency and fairness of the selection process.

YDA directly attributed these irregularities to the leadership of Vice Chancellor Dr. Amjad Siraj Memon, under whose supervision the hiring decisions were made. The association believes that favoritism and political influence have played a major role in the selection of faculty members, casting doubt on the credibility of JSMU’s hiring policies. Such practices, according to YDA, have not only damaged the university’s reputation but also pose a serious threat to the future of medical education and patient care in Sindh.

The Young Doctors Association has issued a firm call for an immediate review of the recruitment process. It has demanded that all faculty appointments be made strictly on merit to ensure that JPMC and JSMU uphold the highest standards of medical education and training. YDA has warned that if these concerns are not addressed promptly, it will take necessary actions, including protests, to fight against this injustice and protect the rights of the medical community.

The association also highlighted the long-term impact of such biased hiring decisions. If merit continues to be disregarded, it will not only demotivate senior faculty members but also compromise the quality of education provided to future doctors. Additionally, it could lead to a decline in patient care standards at JPMC, as less experienced professionals take up key teaching and supervisory roles. YDA reiterated that maintaining transparency in medical faculty appointments is essential to ensuring the credibility of Pakistan’s healthcare institutions.

Calling upon regulatory authorities and the government, YDA urged an immediate intervention to rectify the situation before it causes irreversible damage to the medical profession. The association remains steadfast in its commitment to defending the principles of merit-based recruitment and will not tolerate any attempts to compromise the integrity of the institution. It called upon all stakeholders, including senior medical professionals, healthcare organizations, and the general public, to support its cause in ensuring fairness and transparency in faculty hiring at JSMU.
