ISLAMABAD - The managing committee of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has decided to waive off assessment/exit exam after one-year house job for upcoming doctors.

The exit examination system was introduced a couple of months back by the PMDC and all medical students were required to appear in it following completing their house job.

The managing committee’s chairman Major General (retd)  Prof Dr Azhar Mehmood Kayani said the decision has been taken in the best interest of the medical profession, as clearing exit/assessment examination had caused unrest among medical/dental students as they fear being unable to practice after the completion of their house job and earlier extensive studies. He said that instead of examining medical and dental students after having qualified through all the necessary examinations earlier, the committee has decided to inspect the hospitals to monitor the training facilities of house job.

The other members of the committee who attended the meeting included Prof  Dr Abid Z. Farooqi, Prof Dr Syed Nadeem Hassan Rizvi, Khashi-ur-Rehman and Mrs Saira Najeeb.

Meanwhile, the upcoming doctors have lauded the managing committee’s decision, saying that the exit exam was an undue burden as it had complicated the system.
