YDA Sindh expresses concern over unavailability of beds in hospitals

KARACHI: The Young Doctors Association (YDA) Sindh expressed its concern over the unavailability of beds and ventilators in the public and private sector hospitals of Sindh.

Chairman, YDA, Sindh, Dr Umer Sultan, while talking to the press, said that the YDA pointed out all the problems being faced by hospitals since the coronavirus outbreak in the Sindh province, but unfortunately no attention was paid to resolve these issues.

He said that the YDA observed token protest, inform print and electronic media, and launched a social media campaign to get the government’s attention, but it was all in vain. He said no step had been taken to resolve genuine issues.

He informed that no beds are available in major public sector hospitals like the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) and others.

Dr Umer Sultan said that doctors have been facing serious security issues at the workplace due to the unavailability of beds and ventilators. He said incidents of harassment and torture have increased in Sindh’s hospitals.

He announced that doctors would stage a protest if security not provided to healthcare professionals at these hospitals.

The YDA Civil Hospital Karachi condemned the campaign, making rounds on social media against doctors. We request the Sindh government and CHK’s administration to increase the hospital's security measures to ensure our fellow doctors. There have been various incidents of security lapses in the past few weeks, where attendants assaulted our doctors noted the YDA.

It is high time that the CHK’s management increases security. The YDA CHK will not tolerate such incidents in the future. The safety of our doctors remains our top priority, said the YDA.
