KARACHI: The Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) administration has resumed elective surgeries. Ten operations were conducted recently in the Elective Operation Theater.

Medical Superintendent, CHK, Dr Noor Soomro shared these views during a media briefing held by the CHK. Additional Medical Superintendent, CHK, Dr Ismail Memon, and others were also present on occasion.

Dr Noor Soomro said that elective surgeries had been suspended after the coronavirus outbreak in the Sindh province, but now the number of COVID-19 cases is decreasing in the province; therefore, elective operations have been resumed. He informed that on the first day, about ten surgeries were carried out at the Elective OT.

He said pharmacists, dispensers, and other staff would be hired to fill the vacant posts to improve patient care at the hospital. Sindh's first COVID-19 ICU facility has also been established at the CHK to treat coronavirus patients.

Dr Soomro claimed that the number of COVID-19 cases has declined in the province through preventive measures; however, more efforts are needed to control this infectious disease.

Additional Medical Superintendent, CHK, Dr Ismail Memon, said that the majority of coronavirus patients had recovered and been discharged from the hospital. He said the testing of COVID-19 suspected patients has also reduced due to the low turnout. He claimed that the death ratio of COVID-19 patients in public sector hospitals, particularly the CHK, has remained low compared to private health facilities.
