Health Services Department Calls for Conducting Fumigation in Cattle Markets

KARACHI- Medical and Health Services Department of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has urged the Senior Director, Municipal Services, KMC to ensure optimum spraying in the cattle markets established in Karachi, on a daily basis to prevent the citizens from acquiring deadly Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) during Eid ul Azha.

Senior Director, Medical and Health Services, KMC, Dr. Birbal Genani, wrote to the Senior Director, Municipal Services, KMC, informing him that cattle markets have been setted up at different areas within the city of Karachi and its outskirts, and a large number of public has been regularly visiting to purchase sacrificial animals. He requested to issue directives to ensure fumigation in all cattle markets on daily basis.

Furthermore, he requested for the arrangements of preventive measure for Congo virus, as there is a potential threat that slaughtering animals and other livestock animals may harbor ticks, containing the deadly virus.The Congo fever is a highly contagious fatal disease, that spreads through tick bite.

Therefore, the public is asked to be prepared and take necessary measures to successfully prevent CCHF. It has been advised to provide gloves for animal handlers during Eid days to protect them from contracting the infection.

In 2018, two deaths have occurred due to the lethal Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF).
