Hunger strike by PPMSA members

Karachi: The token hunger strike by the Pakistan Paramedical Staff Association (PPMSA) Karachi Division has continued on third day in Civil Hospital Karachi to reinforce their demand for removal of medical superintendent, shortage of medicines and promotions of paramedics. 

President PPMSA Karachi Division Nazeer Abbasi, Chairman Civil Hospital Karachi Unit Working Committee Iftikhar Ahmed Khan, Ali Ghumro, Noreen Khan, Shahid Hussain, Rizwan Mughal, Mina, Ashok Keena, Saeeda Mubarak Ali, Kausar Iqbal, Qaiser Ibrahim, Tahir Iqbal, Mir Hasan Chouhan, Muhammad Jawaid, Firdous Khan, Zaheer Ahmed, Dildar, Mushtaq Ahmed and others have continued their token hunger strike on second day outside the Emergency Department of hospital.

The participants of token hunger strike camp chanted slogans reiterated demands that survival of healthcare and improvement of health delivery system could not possible until the removal of MS.      
Addressing the participant, President PPMSA Karachi Division Muhammad Nazeer Abbasi said PPMSA always raise voice against injustice and tyranny. He said medical superintendent has destroyed the public healthcare.

According to PPMSA, that millions of rupees allocated for medicines at civil hospital by the government are not used for the purpose as there is acute shortage of drugs in hospital forcing poor patients to purchase medicines from medical stores at higher prices. 

He said MRI machine is not functioning for the last one year and yet administration is not getting it repaired and this results in poor patients suffering.  

He said if all these genuine demands of paramedics if not accepted then they may go on a province-wide protests..
