KARACHI: Xavier Castellanos Mosquera, Secretary General of International Federation of Red Cross Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), Sardar Shahid Ahmed Laghari, Chairman of the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS), and Samar Ali Khan, Chairman PRCS-Sindh Branch visited flood-affected areas of Sindh.
They distributed ration packs, hygiene kits, and non-food items, including tents, tarpaulin sheets, mosquito nets, blankets, etc., to flood victims in District Sujawal.
During his visit to the Sujawal District and distribution of food and other relief items to the flood victims, the IFRC under Secretary General praised the efforts of the PRCS and stated that the recent floods have put the health of women and children at risk and that the IFRC will continue to support the provision of treatment and better facilities.
"I am quite pleased with the Pakistan Red Crescent's efforts to reach individuals with relief supplies. However, in the next months, we must guarantee that the world community unites in support of the Pakistani people. The Pakistan Red Crescent and the International Federation of Red Cross Societies (IFRC) will continue to assist local efforts to aid those most in need", he remarked.
Through its emergency appeal, Xavier also pledged that the IFRC would support the PRCS in assisting over 320,000 people to recover from these tragic floods.
Sardar Shahid Ahmed Laghari, chairman of the PRCS, expressed appreciation to IFRC and RCRC Movement partners for their assistance in reducing the suffering of vulnerable people.
"People in flood-affected regions have lost loved ones, houses, animals, and crops and are now suffering from serious health issues; thus, they want our immediate support," stated PRCS Chairman Laghari. "PRCS has pledged to assist until the last flood victim receives relief."
In the following phase, he added, PRCS would also give shelter and means of subsistence to the most vulnerable flood-affected Pakistani citizens.
Samar Ali Khan, chairman of the PRCS-Sindh Branch, praised the IFRC and PRCS National Headquarters for aiding the provincial branch in distributing relief materials to flood-affected homes in Sindh.
He noted that the whole PRC-Sindh organization, including management, employees, and volunteers, is working around the clock to contact flood victims and provide relief materials to those in need in the 12 most vulnerable districts.
Moreover, they have offered aid to tens of thousands of households. He noted that PRCS is now deploying more mobile health units, establishing more water purification facilities, and providing portable water filters, date bars, and nutrition supplement sachets to flood-affected households.
