KARACHI: A tragic incident in Shah Latif Town has resulted in the deaths of three individuals, including Dr. Rasool Bux Abro, the owner of a private hospital, following a wall collapse near the facility.
Rescue officials reported that the collapse occurred during construction work on an adjacent plot. Dr. Abro, 65, and Khadim Husain Lashari, 65, a retired police inspector, were both pronounced dead at the scene. Additionally, a woman identified as Ruqia Irfani succumbed to her injuries, raising the death toll to three. Two other individuals sustained injuries in the incident.
According to rescue personnel, the wall was intended to connect with the existing structure of the hospital. Concerns have been raised about the stability of the materials used, which may have contributed to the unexpected collapse.
A minor child who was present at the scene suffered bruises and received first aid on-site.
This incident highlights ongoing issues with unsafe construction practices in Karachi and other major cities across Pakistan, where single-storey buildings are often inappropriately converted into multi-level structures without proper oversight.
Authorities are urged to take immediate action to enforce building regulations and ensure the safety of construction practices to prevent such tragedies in the future.
