Sindh enhances security measures for ongoing anti-polio drive

KARACHI: Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar has directed relevant officers to implement comprehensive security measures for the ongoing anti-polio campaign.
In a recent statement, he underscored the importance of securing all levels of the initiative, emphasizing the need to categorize union councils to bolster security efforts. Lanjar instructed the deployment of police commandos to protect polio workers and teams in sensitive areas.
He also highlighted the necessity of a "cordon strategy" during security operations, ensuring thorough surveillance of neighborhoods, streets, and routes by local police. The minister called for increased police patrols, snap-checking, and blockades across all districts, and urged the enhancement of the intelligence collection system for improved coordination and efficiency.
Additionally, Lanjar instructed district SSPs to closely monitor security arrangements during the campaign, ensuring that SHOs remain present in their respective areas and provide real-time updates via wireless communication systems.
He also ordered district authorities to guarantee proper accommodation and meals for officers and personnel assigned to security duties throughout the campaign. Notably, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah launched the seven-day anti-polio campaign recently.
