Secretary EPD stresses on making strategies to recycle more plastic 

LAHORE: A meeting of environmental experts chaired by Secretary Environmental Protection Department (EPD) Usman Ali Khan reviewed the draft of strategy of the Punjab government on plastic recycling. 

Director General EPA Khawaja Zeeshan Sikandar also attended the meeting. 

Secretary EPD stressed on the need for strategies on making recycling plastic items more viable. He said that more focus should be placed on domestic consumers. He said that the process of disposing of plastic items with less than specified microns, especially shopping bags, should be made incentivized for the consumer so that they take more interest in the process of improving the environment. 

Secretary Environment Usman Ali Khan while mentioning the strategies adopted in different countries said that the plastic strategy for Punjab will be carried forward on the model of the neighboring country. “Shopping bags should be such that they can be recycled”, said the chair. 

 He said that instead of only mega malls, the plastic strategy should be developed keeping in mind the situation at the grassroots and household level. Secretary Environment Protection Punjab directed the experts to improve the strategy draft as soon as possible so that it can be presented to the provincial government for approval.
