KARACHI: The Sindh Health Department has decided to immunize all province people with Pfizer booster shots in light of the dangers posed by Omicron, the new Covid-19 variant, which has a higher risk of transmission.
“The decision is absolute, but the department still working to make arrangements for this endeavour possible, and a definite date will be announced soon. The jab would be available to anyone vaccinated previously with the Chinese vaccines; Sinopharm, Sinovac and Cansino,” said a representative.
Only Dow University of Health Sciences and Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre are two facilities offering the booster vaccine to the masses currently.
This news came after the federal government announced a complete ban on travel from seven countries after a new heavily mutated coronavirus variant was reported in South Africa. Health experts have asked the government to increase Covid-19 surveillance facilities at country entry points like airports, especially for those travelling from high-risk countries.
