KARACHI- Approximately 21 million people in Pakistan are battling with chronic kidney disease. 80% of patients on dialysis die within a year, due to inaccessibility to proper treatment.

Agha Welfare Trust, a CSR initiative of Agha Steel Industries Limited, inaugurated state-of-the-art Agha Dialysis Centre (ADC), in Karachi.

This dialysis centre is a 10 bedded facility, suitable for accommodating around 720 dialysis per month, and has been established at Imam Clinic, Karachi.

Speaking on the occasion, Executive Trustee of Agha Welfare Trust and CEO of Agha Steel Industries Limited, Mr Hussain Agha, mentioned that Kkidney failure was among the leading causes of death in the country, affecting both the rich and poor.

He further stated that, “Thousands of patients have to undergo haemodialysis treatment, two to four times a week, that causes strain on their families who have to continuously cope with the prohibitive costs of maintaining their treatment sessions that includes regular and emergency medical examinations, hospitalization and medicines. Even those who have money find it difficult because renal disease requires lifetime treatment.”

The ADC is committed towards providing quality healthcare, especially to the less privileged.

In all three facilities, beneficiaries will not only receive free treatment but will also get rehabilitation facility.

The first facility to provide dialysis treatment sessions was established at Bait-ul-Sukoon Cancer Hospital, while the other one is at Fatimiyah General Hospital. Both facilities have so far successfully treated 25,000 renal cases.
