Another Congo fever case reported at JPMC

KARACHI: Another Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) patient has been reported at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, taking the reported cases toll to eight in this health facility since the start of the year.

A patient, Ashraf Khan, son of Hayatullah, resident of Quetta, Baluchistan, was brought in the emergency department with a history of fever and nasal blood for two days. The patient was moved to an Isolation Room in Ward 23.

The patient was diagnosed with Congo fever, as confirmed by lab reports. The patient was exposed or having a history of contact with animals.

Executive Director, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), Dr Seemin Jamali, said a total of eight Congo infected patients have been reported in the hospital so far out of which five were cured and discharged, two died, and one is currently admitted in the health facility.

According to the Sindh Health Department, a total of nine Congo fever cases have been reported in the private and public sector hospitals so far out of which five people have died, three others have been cured and discharged, and the treatment of a patient is currently underway at the JPMC.
