KARACHI: The Young Doctors Association (YDA) Sindh has voiced strong condemnation for the recent attempt to abduct D. Yasir Hussain Khan, a renowned orthopedic consultant at JPMC, in Landhi.
The incident was condemned at a YDA meeting that took place at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) in Karachi, drawing a substantial attendance of doctors.
The incident occurred in Quaidabad, Landhi, Karachi, where Dr Khan was targeted while shopping. Within the jurisdiction of Shah Latif Police Station, six men attempted to abduct him at gunpoint. Dr Yasir sustained injuries in the incident, having been shot while offering resistance to the kidnappers, who managed to escape with his cash, mobile phone, and car.
Following the incident, Dr Khan lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at the Shah Latif police station. Despite the YDA holding a press conference at the Karachi Press Club to highlight the matter, no visible progress has been observed in investigation into the case.
In response to the lack of action by the police, the doctors have collectively decided that if no substantial steps are taken regarding this incident, they will initiate a three-day boycott of the Outpatient Department (OPD) duties.
The YDA warned of a call for a protest across Sindh, emphasizing the urgency of addressing the safety concerns of medical professionals.
