PMA raps mistreatment of BBC journalist at NICVD

KARACHI: The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Karachi expresses its strong condemnation of the recent incident in which a journalist working for the BBC was mistreated at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD).

"We are deeply concerned by reports of the journalist being mishandled and subjected to mistreatment [at the NICVD]," states PMA Karachi.

The association says it firmly upholds the utmost respect for media professionals and their right to carry out their duties without fear of harm or intimidation. PMA Karachi acknowledges the pivotal role journalists play in bringing news and information to the public, adding that any form of aggression towards them should not be tolerated.

In response to these unfortunate events, PMA Karachi calls for a comprehensive and independent inquiry into the incident at NICVD, urging authorities to hold those responsible for the mistreatment accountable for their actions.

The association reiterates that it stands in solidarity with journalists and media organizations, underscoring the importance of freedom of the press and the necessity of a safe working environment.

It appeals to all healthcare professionals to respect the rights and duties of media professionals, reiterating its commitment to upholding the values of professionalism and mutual respect.
