USA: PAXLOVID, a medication cocktail developed to enable people to avoid being hospitalised with COVID-19, may lead to substantial adverse effects in the high-risk American population as per the report of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), United States of America.
More than 30 medicines had been identified by the FDA as potentially interfering with PAXLOVID, including blood thinners, cholesterol-lowering medicines, and medicines for treating gout, a severe form of arthritis. In some circumstances, patients are recommended not to take the medicines simultaneously. In contrast, others are cautioned that PAXLOVID could weaken or raise the drug's strength to the point of being toxic.
Earlier, the FDA approved PAXLOVID for emergency use, and many were confident that it would help relieve hospital overcrowding. Pfizer's pills are the first COVID-19 outpatient treatment that does not require the assistance of a health care professional to administer, and their storage and transit convenience may help to enhance accessibility.
