KARACHI: Rich tributes were paid to Professor Noor Ahmed Baloch, former Principal of the Chandka Medical College Larkana, at a memorial meeting recently organized by the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT).
Prof Baloch passed away in Toronto recently. The memorial meeting was presided by Prof Adib Rizvi, Director, SIUT, while speakers who paid tributes and recalled the services included the faculty members of the Institute.
Paying tributes to the deceased, Prof Adib Rizvi said, "Baloch Sahib, as he was fondly addressed, left an unparalleled legacy of serving patients and teaching both to students and residents. Baloch Sahib accomplished the challenging task of setting up a speciality of Urology in the Chandka Medical College, which was the first of its kind in Larkana, Sindh.” He said another contribution of Prof Baloch was setting up a Centre of Urology in Larkana equipped with lithotripters, which again happened to be the first such facility in the upper part of the province. Prof Rizvi said that the services of late Prof Baloch would be remembered for all times to come not only as an outstanding surgeon but also in the field of medical education and hospital administration.
Prof Baloch served at Chandka Medical College as its Principal from 1983 to 1984 and Medical Superintendent from 1989 to 1990 and as a Professor of Urology in subsequent years till his retirement in 2001.
Late Prof Baloch also has the distinction of serving the SIUT as the Chief Controller Examinations and later as a trustee till passing away.
The memorial meeting was telecasted on the Zoom app and also attended in Canada by the family members of the late Prof Baloch.
Other speakers who addressed the meeting included Dr Anwar Naqvi, Dr Zafar Husain, Dr Altaf Hashmi, Dr Murli Lal, and Dr Buksh Ali.
