KARACHI: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has launched an investigation into alleged embezzlement at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC). Notices have been issued to the administrative officer of JPMC, requesting their appearance before the FIA Corporate Crime Officer along with all relevant records.

According to FIA officials, a raid was conducted at a house on Kashmir Road, where a man named Masoom Ahmed was questioned. He revealed that he had purchased banned contraband drugs and lenses for the hospital.

FIA officials estimate that approximately PKR 780 million has been misappropriated in the illegal procurement of medicines and surgical instruments. Additionally, PKR 250 million has reportedly been embezzled in the purchase of medicines and surgical equipment at the National Institute of Child Health (NICH).

It has also come to light that JPMC has allegedly been sourcing drugs from the black market in exchange for commissions and kickbacks. Officials claim that members of the hospital’s purchasing department are involved in dealing with illegal drug suppliers.
