ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) issued guidelines in anticipation of an imminent heatwave expected to affect various districts of southern Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan this week.

NDMA representative Syed Muhammad Tayyab Shah making the announcement said the increasing frequency and intensity of heatwaves in Pakistan are clear indicators of the effects of climate change.

The NDMA has directed officials concerned to implement weather awareness measures to ensure the safety of tourists and travelers.

Farmers have been advised to consider the weather conditions when planning agricultural activities, while tourists are asked to plan their trips with the current weather conditions in mind, particularly in hilly areas.

In response to a question, Shah highlighted the importance of taking precautions to mitigate the health hazards associated with the heatwave, advising the public to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight, stay hydrated, and wear lightweight, light-colored clothing.

He also urged people to remain indoors during peak sunlight hours to prevent heat-related illnesses such as heatstroke and dehydration.

The NDMA's advisory underscores the necessity for public awareness and preparedness in the face of the predicted heatwave, urging everyone to take the necessary precautions to ensure their safety and well-being.
