KIHD Faces Problems; Cardiac Patients Suffer!

KARACHI-  The Cardiac Emergency and OPD patients of Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases (KIHD) continue to suffer due to lack of facilities in the city’s second largest cardiac care health facility.

An administrative official at KIHD stated that, the hospital has been facing acute shortage of medicines since last 6 years, while equipment like Angiography machines, Echo machines, ECG machines and X-ray machine were out of order.

Around 150 to 200 patients were brought in the emergency department, each for treatment but, the attendants of patients were being advised by doctors to purchase injections, drips and other life-saving medicines from other specific private medical stores.

The hospital administration is currently unable to provide treatment facilities to visiting patients with cardiovascular diseases.  KIHD urgently needs four new echo-machines, ICU and CCU equipment to improve patient care in the institution. Existing echo-machines are old and outdated, therefore new echo-machines, ECG and angiography machines are needed.

The official further added that, liabilities are increasing day by day, that is putting extra-burden on un affording patients.

Senior Director, Health & Medical Services Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Dr. Birbal Genani, however, was not available for any comments.
