Bio Medical Journal launched by Jinnah Sindh Medical University

KARACHI - The Chairman of Sindh Higher Education Commission - Dr Asim Hussain has said; Pakistan is losing ground in the international market, owing to our poor medical education system and the concerned authorities should take concrete steps to improve the medical education standard again.

He shared these views while addressing a launching ceremony of a biomedical journal of Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) “Annals of Jinnah Sindh Medical University” held at Khwaja Moin Ahmed Lecture Hall JSMU. Member of National Assembly - Dr Farooq Sattar, Vice Chancellor JSMU -Prof SM Tariq Rafi, Executive Director Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center -Prof Anis Bhatti, Prof Zaman Sheikh and others attended the event.

Dr Asim said medical education standard of the country was much better in past as compared to current days. He said Pakistan considered hub of medical education in past but we are losing dignity internationally in medical field.

He said; The concerned authorities should take concrete steps to maintain international standards in medical education, in order to regain the pride and dignity in this field.

He emphasized on improving the quality of medical journalism in Pakistan, so that more journals could get into the ISI indexing. Currently only three medical journals, out of 75 health-related journals are being published from Pakistan, are in this list.

MNA Dr Farooq Sattar said; Karachi is not only the hub of national economy but also the hub of educational institutions. He hoped that Karachi will become the hub of education for the whole of South Asian region in future.

He said every person has the right to get education and we will not tolerate any kind of monopoly in the education sector. The dream of a prosperous country could not be achieved until we improve the education standards.

He mentioned the importance of empowerment of the students through knowledge. He further indicated that the knowledge is not the exclusive asset of any nation.

Director of Research & Editor of AJSMU - Prof Nazeer Khan mentioned the main features of the journal, while VC of JSMU Prof SM Tariq Rafi addressed as the key note speaker. He mentioned that we have initiated Urdu abstracts of the articles for the first time in Pakistan.

Prof Zafar Saied Saify and Prof Nazeer Khan were awarded memento of appreciation for achieving the level of 100 publications in scientific journals.  In the end Prof Lubna Baig presented vote of thanks to the chief guest and participants.
