KARACHI: The National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) in collaboration with the Government of Sindh has inaugurated its 11th “Chest Pain Unit” in Tando Bago (District Badin) to facilitate patients with chest pain with easy access and free of cost services.

Provincial Minister for Health and Population Welfare, Sindh, Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho, Professor Nadeem Qamar, Executive Director, NICVD, and Zainulabedin, Advisor to the IT Minister, Sindh, formally inaugurated the Chest Pain Unit on July 27th, 2019.

Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho while speaking at the inaugural ceremony of 11th CPU of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) in Tando Bago said, “The Sindh Government is using its containers for saving lives and serving ailing humanity, which is evident from the Chest Pain Units (CPUs) of the NICVD. These hospitals in containers saved thousands of lives during the last two years in different locations in Karachi and Ghotki.”

Congratulating the NICVD administration and Prof Nadeem Qamar for saving thousands of lives in all of Sindh by establishing Chest Pain Units and Satellite Centers in the different cities of Sindh, she said that within next two months, more CPUs would be installed at various locations.

On occasion, Executive Director, NICVD, Prof Nadeem Qamar, termed the Chest Pain Unit a gift to the people of Tando Bago and surrounding areas. He noted that the CPU would provide immediate help to those who have experienced chest pain or heart attack.

“The number of Chest Pain Units serving the people of Karachi and other cities would reach 17 soon, and they would be providing heart attack management facilities to the people closer to their residence. After stabilizing their condition, those patients would be transported to the main NICVD hospital where they would be provided with further specialized treatment,” he added.

“Within the last two years, these containers saved more than 6270 lives who were having heart attacks but managed to reach these containers where they were given immediate first aid, after which they were dispatched to the main NICVD where they were given specialized treatment. This shows that Sindh is further ahead than other provinces and the center for serving the masses.

I would urge the media to disseminate information about these CPUs that in the last two years, cardiologists and technicians at these containers placed at nine different locations in Karachi and one in Ghotki, has saved thousands of lives of those who were living with heart conditions but were unable to reach any tertiary-care hospital in time due to traffic congestion,” he added.

Thanking the Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Murad Ali Shah, and Sindh Health Minister, Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho, for providing ample resources to the NICVD for serving the people of Sindh and all of Pakistan free of charge. He simultaneously noted that the NICVD and its satellite centers provided health facilities to thousands of patients from entire Pakistan and will continue to serve humanity in the same manner in the future as well.
