NICVD Karachi sets global record with over 1.3 million free cardiac treatments in 2024

KARACHI: The National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) Karachi has reaffirmed its status as the world’s largest provider of free cardiac care, treating over 1.3 million patients in 2024 without any cost to them.
NICVD’s comprehensive services, including surgeries, advanced interventions, and outpatient consultations, have been a lifeline for patients nationwide. Executive Director Prof. Tahir Saghir emphasized, “At NICVD, we are committed to offering world-class cardiac treatments to everyone, regardless of their financial means or background.”

Extending care nationwide
NICVD treated 160,427 patients from outside Sindh, offering free, cutting-edge cardiac care:
Punjab: 35,251 patients
Balochistan: 107,392 patients
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: 16,004 patients
Azad Jammu & Kashmir: 1,260 patients
Gilgit-Baltistan: 520 patients
In 2024, NICVD launched free pediatric cardiac services in Quetta in collaboration with the Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Institute of Cardiology. The initiative has delivered life-saving interventions to underserved children, including:
45 pediatric cardiac surgeries and 102 interventions
Over 4,500 pediatric OPD consultations
750 complex cases referred to Karachi for specialized treatments
Sustained excellence in cardiac care
