NEW ZEALAND: Authorities in New Zealand recently announced that a 26-year-old man died after contracting myocarditis, a rare heart muscle inflammation, after receiving his first dose of Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine.
As per an international news source, the individual had not sought medical advice or treatment for his symptoms and died just two weeks after taking his first dose. Myocarditis is a condition in which the heart muscle becomes inflamed, limiting the organ's ability to pump blood and causing irregular heartbeat rhythms.
Based on the presently available information, the board had determined that this individual's myocarditis was most likely caused by vaccination, the COVID-19 Vaccine Independent Safety Monitoring Board stated in response.
The spokesperson of Pfizer said it was aware of the death in New Zealand, monitoring all reports of suspected adverse effects and that it still believed the vaccine's benefit-risk balance was acceptable.
