KARACHI: By next year, Syed Murad Ali Shah, Chief Minister of Sindh, would have agreed to increase Jinnah Post Medical Center's (JPMC) bed capacity and annual budget.

When he met with Prof. Shahid, Executive Director, JPMC, at CM House, this decision was made.

According to the Executive Director, who briefed the chief minister, the JPMC is currently a 2208-bed institution in need of improvement.

A few months after this, the chief minister ordered that the hospital's Executive Director increase its bed capacity, which his government would pay for.

The chief minister decided to double the JPMC's budget starting in the following fiscal year after discussing the hospital's financial woes.

His promise to increase the hospital's medical budget was likewise a promise.

In accordance with Mr. Shah's instructions, Prof. Shahid Rasool contracted out the hospital's security and janitorial services.

The chief minister encouraged the executive director of the JPMC to strengthen the Robotic surgery system and spread it to other district hospitals in the province by establishing satellite centres.

The chief minister granted a proposal from JPMC's executive director to add extra 100 seats to the institute's house staff.

The JPMC administration was ordered by Shah to convene meetings of the departmental promotion committee (DPC) for all levels of staff and to promote those who were qualified.

Additional professors, associate professors, and assistant professors would be hired to suit the needs of Jinnah Sindh Medical University, the chief minister has said.
