KU CEWS organises medical camp for breast cancer

KARACHI The Centre of Excellence for Women’s Studies (CEWS), University of Karachi, has arranged a one-day medical camp on ‘Awareness, Examination, and Disseminating Knowledge among Female Students’ about breast cancer in collaboration with Pink Ribbon on Wednesday at Arts and Social Sciences Lobby. 

The program commenced with the awareness walk from the KU Centre of Excellence for Women’s Studies to the Arts Lobby, while the session was inaugurated by the Dean, Faculty of Law Justice Hassan Feroze.

He emphasised that women should take care of their health and appreciated the efforts of the KU CEWS, while the Dean of the Faculty of Art and Social Sciences, Professor Dr Nusrat Idrees, encouraged the students to discuss their issues with the doctors openly and should also discuss the health issues of their mothers and elderly females of their family with the doctors.

Meanwhile, the in-charge KU CEWS, Dr Asma Manzoor, introduced the doctors of the free camp to the students; another faculty member Dr Shagufta Nasreen was also there along with the team. 

The one-day medical camp has been arranged in coordination with the Senior Medical Officer Dr Abid Hassan, and Dr Wafa Altaf, the Lady Medical Officer of the Clinic of the University of Karachi, and other doctors from the field, including Dr Javeria Iftikhar, Dr Fouzia Akmal, Dr Sidrah Hussain, Dr Rakhshanda Siddiqui, and Dr Wafa Altaf, examined more than 200 students and gave awareness to the faculty members and female students (from the entire University) about women-specific health problems including breast cancer and several health issues.

Meanwhile, several students and faculty members of social sciences and sciences have attended and consulted with doctors at a one-day medical camp. This was the first free medical camp of its kind, organised by the Centre of Excellence for Women’s Studies for consultancy and creating awareness among faculty members and female students.
