KARACHI: Students from the University of Karachi have achieved a groundbreaking innovation in healthcare technology by creating the world’s smallest rechargeable nebulizer. This portable device is a game-changer for asthma and respiratory patients, offering unparalleled convenience during travel or emergencies.
With the rise in air pollution contributing to respiratory, chest, and lung diseases, nebulizers are an essential tool for managing conditions like asthma. However, traditional nebulizers are bulky and impractical for frequent travel or office use. Recognizing this gap, students from the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at Karachi University have engineered a compact, rechargeable nebulizer that fits in the palm of the hand.
Features of the Nebulizer
Portability: Its compact size allows patients to use it comfortably during travel or in office environments.
Rechargeable: A single charge provides up to 35 minutes of continuous use, sufficient for two days of typical nebulization.
Ease of use: The device ensures that patients can manage respiratory emergencies effortlessly without relying on bulky equipment.
The development team includes Abdul Rehman Siddiqui, Taha Ishaq, Syed Waliuddin, Syeda Arshia, Zohaib Salman, Mahim Zaidi, Priyan Khan, and Touba Saleem. Their collaborative efforts have resulted in a medical innovation poised to make a significant impact on patient care.
The team highlights that this nebulizer is particularly beneficial for patients with chronic respiratory conditions or chest infections. By addressing the limitations of conventional nebulizers, this invention provides a portable, efficient, and effective solution for managing respiratory health in today’s fast-paced world.
This pioneering achievement underscores the potential of young Pakistani innovators in solving critical global health challenges.
