RAWALPINDI: General Qamar Javed Bajwa, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has appointed Lt General Nigar Johar as Colonel Commandant of Army Medical Corps (AMC) the first-ever female general to be given said title, according to the military.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement, the COAS visited the AMC Centre in Abbottabad for the occasion, where he presented the badges of rank to Lieutenant General Nigar Johar and formally announced her as the first-ever female general to become the AMC’s Colonel Commandant.
The COAS praised the AMC and their contributions to healthcare during times of peace and war and expressed satisfaction at the employment of the first-ever female as the Colonel Commandant, a cause of immense pride for the Pakistan Army and the country.
“Keeping up with rapid developments in medical science is vital for the medical professionals to improve themselves.” Said General Qamar.
General Nigar is also the first female officer to be given the lieutenant general rank alongside being a recipient of the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz and Fatima Jinnah Gold Medal for her meritorious services in the Army Medical Corps from the prime minister. She was born in Swabi, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and started her education at the Presentation Convent Girls High School, Rawalpindi. She went on to graduate from the Army Medical College in 1985.
