KARACHI- Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto (SMBB) Trauma Centre, a public sector hospital in Karachi, successfully performed an operation on a patient suffering from a fatal disease, by using TEVAR (Thoracic Endo-Vascular Aneurysma Repair) procedure.

To carry out this procedure for the first time in Sindh, a two-member team from Turkey, led by Dr Aytec, came to Pakistan.

To facilitate them, a team of SMBB Trauma Center was formed, which consisted of Prof. Dr Mohammad Saeed Quraishy, Dr Irfan Amjad Lutfi, Dr Fahad and others.

Prof. Saeed Quraishy stated, “TEVAR procedure is highly expensive and is being carried out on the account of the Government of Sindh. The stents and other necessary instruments required for the procedure are certified by FDA and C MARK, and are imported.”

Prior to this, TEVAR procedure was performed in another public sector hospital situated in Islamabad.

Furthermore, Prof. Quraishy added that during this procedure, a device is introduced within the affected area through a small hole in the blood vessel, which is directed towards the leg region, as a result the risk of swelling and bursting of blood vessel is avoidable.
