Heatwave kills 25 peacocks in Tharparkar

KARACHI: The severe heatwave gripping many parts of the country has claimed the lives of at least 25 peacocks in Tharparkar district of Sindh.
Confirming the peacock fatalities due to the extreme heat, Wildlife Department Deputy Conservator Mir Aijaz Talpur said that out of 21 peacocks brought to the Mithi Poultry Center, only 10 could survive, adding that teams are being sent to the affected areas to provide aid.
Residents of Tharparkar have demanded the establishment of peacock treatment camps at the village level, citing the deaths of dozens of sick birds due to the ongoing heatwave.
Meanwhile, in Bhains Colony (Cattle Colony), numerous animals have also succumbed to the heat, according to the Secretary Information of the Dairy Farmers Association.
Many animals have been affected, and there is concern that the death toll may rise, he said, adding that Vitamin C and glucose are being administered to the cattle to help protect them from the heat.
