KMC Fails to Launch Fumigation Drive

KARACHI- Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) failed to launch an anti-dengue & malaria fumigation campaign in Karachi, despite the alarming increase in cases of malaria and dengue across the city.

The dengue larva breeding has rapidly increased, due to poor sanitation condition of the city but so far, no concrete step has been taken to control the prevalence of dengue, malaria and other vector-borne diseases.

Although, Prevention and Control Program for Dengue in Sindh (PCPD) is conducting fumigation in selective areas of Karachi but, KMC has failed to devise strategies to control these menaces.

The monsoon season usually leads to formation of pockets of dirty and clean water at sites like nurseries, lakes, ponds, graveyards, construction sites, potholes, swimming pools, tyre shops, water pumping stations, waste dumping areas, are the main source of dengue spread.

Sindh, especially Karachi is greatly affected by the dengue epidemic at this moment.

According to reports, a total number of 451 dengue cases have been reported across Sindh province, out of which 426 were reported from within Karachi and 25 from rest of the province. A death from dengue fever was also reported in Karachi this year.
