JSMU signs MoU to launch new Boys Medical College

KARACHI: Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) and Sindh Employees Social Security Institution (SESSI) have signed three MoUs related to the start of Boys Medical College, an affiliation of SESSI’s Nursing School to JSMU and the handover of Physiotherapy Department of SESSI to JSMU. 

In a ceremony held in the board room of JSMU, Vice Chancellor of Jinnah Sindh Medical University Prof Amjad Siraj Memon and Commissioner SESSI Ahmed Bakhsh Narejo signed the memorandum of understanding, which was witnessed by SESSI Medical Advisor Dr Shah Muhammad Noonari and JSMU Registrar Dr Azam Khan. 

According to the memorandum of understanding, SESSI is handing over its Physiotherapy Department to Jinnah Sindh Medical University and affiliating its nursing school to Jinnah Sindh Medical University for providing clinical teaching, research and all the benefits to the students at Kulsoom Bai Valika Social Security SITE Hospital and Social Security Landhi Hospital. 

According to the memorandum of understanding of Boys Medical College, SESSI wants to start a medical college with Jinnah Sindh Medical University and for the purpose of Medical College, Social Security Kidney Centre Landhi building will be provided by SESSI. JSMU will initiate the renovation work with timeline of two months and will recruit required faculty, administrative and technical staff. 

The MoUs for affiliation of Nursing School, handover of Physiotherapy Department and provision of building for Medical College will be for a period of 30 years, during which JSMU and SESSI will ensure compliance with all applicable laws. 

Prof Amjad Siraj Memon, Vice Chancellor of Jinnah Sindh Medical University, said that Jinnah Sindh medical university is engaged in providing health care, education and research in health sciences as laid down in Jinnah Sindh Medical University act, 2013. Affiliation of nursing school, handover of physiotherapy department to JSMU and start of Boys Medical College will meet the shortage of qualified doctors, nursing staff and physiotherapists required in the health care sector, which will show a clear positive change in the health care system. 

Ahmed Bakhsh Narejo, Commissioner SESSI, said that SESSI is committed to ensuring the provision of medical care facilities and economic benefits to its employees and their dependents. Children of SESSI employees and secured workers will also be given admissions if they meet the eligibility criteria. 

In the end, the officials of SESSI and former graduates of SMC were presented with gifts of Sindhi cap (topi) and scarf (ajrak).
