KARACHI - Though the protest demonstrations of Karachi Medical & Dental College (KMDC) employees over non-payment of their salaries have come to an end, boycott of classes and dental OPDs will continue till Aug 30.
It was decided when Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s senior director (Medical Services) Dr Salma Kausar visited the KMDC where its employees had staged a demonstration to protest against non-payment of salaries. The official informed the KMDC employees that their one month salary has been deposited in their bank accounts, while the salary of the remaining two months would be disbursed by Aug 30.
According to the protesters, KMDC employees from grade-1 to 17 were deprived of their salaries for the last one month, whereas faculty members, including assistant professors, professors and other above grade-17 officials had not received their salaries of last three months.
Such a situation had arisen following KMDC’s grant was slashed by the KMC, they added.
The protesting employees also assured Dr Kausar that in the light of their discussions with her they have also decided to put off their planned protest demonstration in front of Civic Centre.
However, some other employees vowed to continue their boycott of classes and dental OPDs till Aug 30.
