Dr Asim Hussain nabbed for money-laundering

KARACHI - Pakistan Rangers Sindh produced Ex-Federal Minister Dr Asim Hussain, before Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) and informed it about their 90-day preventive detention for questioning.

The personnel of Pakistan Rangers, Sindh, along with their lawyer produced Dr Asim Hussain, ex Petroleum Minister and Chairman Sindh Higher Education Commission before the court amid tight security. According to the report, the suspect is required for investigation for alleged involvement in money-laundering, china-cutting, excess of power and illegally issuing licenses of CNG stations across the province of Sindh.

The court allowed the paramilitary force to detain the suspect for 90 days for interrogation, considering legal provisions section 11EEEE (1) of ATA. The paramilitary force has the authority to detain suspects for the period of three moths for questioning under section 11EEEE (1) of ATA.

Earlier, Dr Asim Hussain was arrested from his office by the plain cloths personnel previous day  and taken to unknown location for questioning. He was later handed over to Rangers and  paramilitary force presented him in the ATC today in tight security.

Dr Asim, is considered a close aide of former president and Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari and also running a private medical university and hospital in Karachi.

Dr Asim’s wife Dr Zareen Hussain wrote a letter to the Inspector-General Sindh Police, seeking the whereabouts of her husband and his physical condition. The letter stated that Dr Asim is a diabetes and hypertension patient requiring constant medical care, she said.
