KARACHI- Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) has been facing acute water shortage for the last one month, thereby adding miseries to patients.

According to sources, Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) had drastically cut the hospital’s supply and as a result of which not only the indoor-patients but also the employees of the health facility have been facing immense hardships in the current hot weather.

Moreover, the reduced water supply has badly affected the hospital’s routine cleanliness and sanitation work, they added.

Water supply to the hospital remained suspended on Saturdays and Sundays as it was getting the supply for only five days a week.
They complained that though the acute water shortage had been prevailing for the last one month, the hospital’s administration seemed least interested in the plight of patients as well as employees, including paramedical staff and nurses, as they have not yet made alternative arrangements of supplying water though tankers.

At a time when the hospital was already facing shortage of medicines, persisting water crisis was resulting into decline in number of patients visiting the health care facility.

KMC’s Health & Medical Services’ senior director Dr Salma Kausar was not available for comment.
