Sindh health dept gets US donation of mobile TB vans, X-ray machines

KARACHI: Sindh health department has been provided five mobile TB detection vans and three digital X-ray machines by the United States to improve tuberculosis diagnosis and treatment in the province's remote regions.

US Ambassador Donald Blome handed over the equipment to Sindh Minister for Health and Population Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho, who lauded the support by the US government.

"This initiative symbolises the strong bilateral relationship between Pakistan and the United States and aims to fortify Sindh’s healthcare system," she said.

Ambassador Blome praised the Sindh health department for its commitment to eradicating TB and highlighted the importance of mobile units in expanding access to quality healthcare. "These vans will enable the provincial health department to reach vulnerable communities, providing essential care," he remarked.

Since the 2022 floods, the US has provided over $74 million in health aid, including TB diagnostic vans and mobile X-ray units, to enhance tuberculosis diagnosis, treatment, and overall healthcare services for at-risk populations.

This investment is expected to boost TB diagnostic access, increase community engagement, improve healthcare service delivery, and reduce TB prevalence in targeted districts.

The partnership aligns with Pakistan's public health goals and the global objective to eliminate TB by 2030.
