LAHORE: The Cardiology Department of Mayo Hospital Lahore is on the brink of closure due to a severe lack of funds and equipment. The head of the department, Professor Imran, has issued a letter warning that without immediate financial support and necessary equipment, patient treatment will cease.
In response to his concerns, the hospital administration has temporarily provided some equipment, enabling angiography for a limited number of patients. However, Dr. Rashid Virk, President of the Young Doctors Association, asserts that the cardiac department is essentially non-functional, with patients at risk and the government failing to deliver on its promises regarding treatment resources.
Conversely, AMS Dr. Nandim Elahi has stated that the cardiac patients were affected for only two weeks due to funding issues, and the situation has since improved. Yet, relatives of patients continue to express frustration, claiming the government is not providing adequate cardiac care at Mayo Hospital, citing shortages of medications and surgical equipment.
