Gynecology Department, Lyari Medical College Demands Enquiry of Irregularities

KARACHI- Recently, a press conference was called by the doctors of Gynecology Department, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical College (SMBBMC) Lyari, at Karachi Press Club.

Dr Rozina Yasir, Dr Shaista Naaz, Dr Ayesha Haque, Dr Rana Hussain, Dr Anial Amjad, Dr Shehla and Dr Sindhu took turns to speak at the press conference.

The doctors demanded the Government of Sindh to conduct an investigation at SMBBMC, taking notice of the mismanagement and abuse of authority. It was requested that these immoral practices that have allegedly been taking place for the last five years should be taken into notice.

Principal SMBBMC, Dr Anjum Rehman was held responsible for hiring employees that violate the merit requirements. They informed that the Principal had employed her family members who were not fit for the granted positions. Dr Anjum Rehman's sister, Dr Saher is also known to be working simultaneously at Latifa Hospital, in Dubai, and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Medical College Lyari, which is an illegal practice.

It was also revealed that she had been allegedly harassing doctors by forcing them to support her in performing illegal activities.

Sources at the health institution disclosed that Dr Anjum was previously suspended from her post as she failed to report back to the Health Department regarding the mismanagement and level of corruption at SMBBMC. She then got hold of a stay order on the matter and is said to be harassing doctors who don't support her practices.
