8,064 dengue larvae sites detected in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI: As many as 8,064 dengue larvae sites have been detected by the District Health Authority in Rawalpindi during the anti-dengue surveillance conducted from January 1, 2024, to date.
Dr. Sajjad Mehmood, District Coordinator for Epidemics Prevention and Control, stated that 999 teams, including 788 indoor teams and 211 outdoor teams, are actively carrying out surveillance across the district to control larvae breeding.
Detailing the findings, Dr. Mehmood reported that larvae were detected at 6,735 homes during indoor surveillance and at 1,361 sites during outdoor surveillance.
Stressing the importance of preventive measures, he urged residents to keep their water tanks clean and eliminate any accumulation of water, as these are the primary breeding grounds for dengue larvae.
Dr. Mehmood highlighted the government's efforts to control the spread of dengue but stressed that active public participation is crucial for the success of these campaigns.
Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral disease that has spread rapidly worldwide in recent years. It is transmitted by female mosquitoes, mainly of the species Aedes aegypti and, to a lesser extent, Aedes albopictus.
