Sindh Government Gulshan Iqbal Hospital Faces Neglect

KARACHI-  The 400 bedded Sindh Government Gulshan e Iqbal Hospital’s construction is still said to be in  pending, despite the lapse of 9 years, due to the authorities’ lack of interest.

Sources at Health Services Department, Karachi informed that, this construction work began some time around in year 2009, with cost of Rs 436.356 million; and was supposed to be completed by 2012-13 but, PC-I of project was revised in year 2014 with an increased cost of Rs 1736.359 million. So far, only 75 per cent work has been completed.

The ground plus, three story building of this hospital has been divided in several blocks. The construction work of Block-A, B and C has been completed. However, construction work of Block D and E is still said to be in its finishing stages. Whereas, the construction work of its administrative block is still underway.

Sources disclosed that, the former Provincial Minister Health, Sindh, Mehtab Hussain Dahar assigned year 2016 as construction’s deadline, after discussing with the concerned contractor. The project is now likely to complete by the end of 2018 or mid 2019, if work is carried out appropriately.

 Sindh Health Department has decided to convert this General Hospital into an Institute Of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation, after the completion of this project.

However, Sindh Health Secretary Dr. Fazlullah Pechuho, was not available for comments regarding the hospital or establishment of the institute.
