Children’s death in Thar - Minister refutes media claim

Karachi: Refuting the media’s claim vis-à-vis Thar children’s death figure, Sindh Health Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar said here on Monday that in all 39 children under 5 years have, so far, died during the current month, while 390 patients were being treated in different hospitals of Tharparkar.

Talking to newsmen at Sindh Assembly, he said that during current month three children died because of their premature birth, seven children due to birth asphyxia , three due to pneumonia, 12 because neonatal sepsis and 10 due to some other reasons.

Elaborating, the minister said that said of the total 114 children, who were admitted to Civil Hospital Mithi on Jan 25, two died while two seriously ill children were referred to Hyderabad.

At present, 11 children are admitted in Diplo, 47 in Nagarparkar and 14 in Chachro, 109 children are under treatment in Mithi, Diplo, Nagarparkar and Chachro hospitals, while around 390 patients have been treated.

He said that health department was utilizing its all resources to provide best possible health facilities to the patients and adequate funds have been provided to concerned district health officers for transportation of patients from Tharparkar to Hyderabad in ambulances.
