SHC dismisses petition to re-conduct MDCAT 

KARACHI: In a recent development, the Sindh High Court (SHC) has declined a plea to suspend the National Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) 2023, following allegations of a question paper leak.

The controversy surrounding the retest of the MDCAT exam erupted when the question paper surfaced on social media platforms. In response to this concerning issue, students took the matter to the Sindh High Court seeking a resolution.

The students, in their plea, highlighted that this is the second instance of the MDCAT paper being leaked, and they expressed their frustration over the lack of accountability for such a serious offense.

During the hearing, the Sindh advocate general informed the SHC bench, presided over by the Chief Justice, that it was a guess paper that had been leaked online, not the official examination paper.

The legal counsel representing the petitioners emphasized their desire for medical and dental college admissions in the province to be based on merit, citing concerns about the integrity of the leaked paper.

In response, the SHC Chief Justice questioned the source of the paper leak and expressed the importance of ensuring that students are admitted to colleges based on their merit.

After considering arguments from both sides, the court decided to reject the plea, with a promise to release a detailed verdict at a later date.

Prior to this, Health Minister Saad Khalid confirmed the findings of an investigation committee, which unequivocally established that the MDCAT 2023 paper had indeed been leaked. Minister Khalid also announced his recommendation to hand over the responsibility for overseeing the inquiry to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

The decision of the Sindh High Court regarding the MDCAT 2023 exam has sparked further discussion and debate, leaving students and stakeholders eagerly awaiting the detailed verdict.
