Private Medical Colleges’ admissions are banned

LAHORE: In an expression of anger over the fee-hike, the Supreme Court has banned admissions to all private medical colleges in the country, till further orders direct to the contrary.

Private medical colleges all over the country have thus been banned from inducting students into their programs. The two-member bench of the Supreme Court’s Lahore registry, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar, was hearing suo moto notice case against fee-hike in private medical colleges and hospitals today, 26^th Dec 2017.

He observed that medical colleges are being run on the rooftops and garages, adding that the court should be told about the structure of such colleges. He remarked that even though we are producing doctors, we don’t know whether our tool is correct.

He sought details of bank accounts of private colleges’ owners and announced that keeping in mind the urgency of the situation for the students and their parents, their case will also be heard on Saturday and Sunday.



Commenting on the situation of the private medical colleges, the CJP stated that unsuitable conditions were being provided yet the owners of all such institutions demanded a high fee from the student body.

The chief justice summoned owners and Chief Executives of all private medical collages with details of fee structure on the following day.

The Chief Justice said strict action would be taken against those violating the apex court orders. The court is hearing cases of public interest because of passion not for its personal glory, he remarked.
