KU VC stresses practical applications of research at ICPAS 2024

KARACHI: Karachi University Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khalid Mehmood Iraqi has emphasized the ethical importance of applying scientific knowledge for societal benefit, warning against research conducted solely for its own sake.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the International Conference on Pharmacology & Allied Sciences (ICPAS 2024), Prof. Iraqi drew attention to the urgent issue of disease prevalence in Pakistan, particularly diabetes and cardiovascular diseases, urging immediate action.

He noted that the conference, held at the Prof. Salimuzzaman Siddiqui Auditorium, International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi, would address critical national issues in pharmacology and related fields.

Organized by the KU Department of Pharmacology in collaboration with ICCBS, the two-day conference has attracted around 300 scholars, including researchers from Sweden, Iran, the UK, Oman, and the USA, with international participants joining virtually.

Prof. Iraqi expressed hope that the event would help tackle pressing issues in pharmacology and allied disciplines, underscoring the importance of using research to drive progress in healthcare, education, technology, and social policy.

Prof. Farzana Shaheen, speaking at the event, highlighted ICCBS's role as a leading research institution in the developing world, emphasizing its contribution to scientific innovation and progress.
