13 held for violating anti-dengue SOPs in twin cities

RAWALPINDI: At least 13 persons have been arrested in separate operations conducted by the district administrations of Islamabad and Rawalpindi for failing to comply with anti-dengue Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to curb the spread of the virus, which has affected hundreds in recent weeks.
In one operation, the Saddar assistant commissioner (AC) arrested seven persons at a commercial site in the G-15 area for violating health regulations, while six others were detained in Nillore on similar charges.
Islamabad Deputy Commissioner (DC) Irfan Nawaz Memon emphasised that such operations would continue without discrimination, directing officials to use every available resource to prevent further spread of the virus.
In a joint meeting between the district administrations of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, officials reviewed current efforts and discussed additional measures to contain the outbreak. Areas requiring urgent intervention were identified to halt the breeding of dengue larvae.
To date, Rawalpindi has reported over 600 dengue cases, while Islamabad has recorded more than 400. Most cases are concentrated in urban areas, with individuals aged 20 to 39 being the most affected.
Alongside enforcement efforts, the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration is focusing on raising public awareness. Officials highlighted the importance of a comprehensive campaign to educate citizens about dengue prevention.
ACs have also been directed to actively engage communities to ensure compliance with SOPs.
Mr Memon stressed the importance of public cooperation, urging residents to follow the guidelines and work with authorities to protect the community.
