ISLAMABAD: A total of 6,500 dengue cases have been reported in the twin cities this year, with 3,912 cases recorded in Rawalpindi and 2,714 in Islamabad. In just the last 24 hours, 64 new cases emerged in Islamabad, highlighting the urgent need for enhanced control measures.
The Islamabad and Rawalpindi administrations are collaborating to address the surge in dengue cases. A recent meeting, led by the Islamabad Chief Commissioner and attended by senior officials, including the Deputy Commissioners of both Islamabad and Rawalpindi, focused on the current dengue situation.
Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, Irfan Nawaz Memon, emphasized that daily fumigation efforts are ongoing across the capital. He confirmed that the administration is actively targeting potential mosquito breeding sites and has implemented strict measures to combat the outbreak. Over the past week, the district administration has made 56 arrests and registered 19 cases against individuals violating dengue prevention guidelines.
Awareness campaigns are being conducted in both cities to educate the public about dengue prevention. These initiatives include collaborations with local educational institutions to reach a broader audience and promote preventive practices.
During the meeting, officials agreed to intensify the anti-dengue campaign and increase inspections along the city borders through joint teams. The plan also aims to expand the awareness drive to reinforce preventive measures against dengue throughout the twin cities.
